Someone really important told me the other day, out of the number of things we can’t control in our lives, 3 really important ones we can control is...
Our thoughts - Our words - Our actions.
Not sure about you but when I dug deeper into this idea, I realized my thoughts often lead TO my ACTIONS and WORDS.
When Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to "take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ" he used the imagery of war.
Your mind is your battlefield.
Mindset is crucial in our lives.
What you feed yourself, if frequently enough, you become, act out and live by.
If I listen to the same song over and over again, I memorize the lyrics and it becomes second nature (aka every Justin Bieber song ever)... same applies for our thoughts.
If you turn your ear to the worlds lies of (ex:)...
"If it feels good, it is good for me"
"You are your past"
"I'll be happy when ____"
"It's all about me"
"I just can't do it"
...your thoughts then become centered around a life leading you to disappointment and away from truth.
Satan’s strategy in our life is to block the application of the truth in the Word in our minds so that we can be held hostage to the worlds lies.
Knowing that these thoughts are REAL and I'm sure have all gone through our heads at some point... how does it look to allow truth to be the root of our minds?
Not all thoughts come from God
When I have angry, selfish or fearful thoughts, I know those are not from the Lord.
2 Timothy 1:7 says,
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”.
God's Spirit fills us with power, love, and self-control.
It can be tempting to start trusting in your own wisdom or the thoughts of others, rather than God’s voice.
But truth tells us:
James 4:8 says,
"Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you."
Psalm 145:18
“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth”.
We CAN direct our thoughts towards TRUTH
Our thoughts are not just a stain we can put some tide stick on and boom its gone. Our thoughts affect every area of our life because thoughts become feelings, which turn into beliefs.
Once we believe something in our heart and mind, it then becomes the fuel for our actions... which in turn becomes our life. When He becomes your fuel, He becomes your life.
Philippians 4:8
"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."
Proverbs 4:23
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
When we turn our minds and hearts to Gods light, truth, and promises, our minds will fill with His presence.
This does not mean hard, confusing or frustrating thoughts will just stop coming to our mind, but just as Hebrews 4:12 tells us,
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any double-edged sword... and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
So, when your thoughts are full of lies... don't let them win.
Jesus always wins. Truth always wins.
Take that thought, take that lie, and replace it with TRUTH.
A truth we all have access to.
"You will know the truth, and the truth will set you FREE."
John 8:32

"I'm too tired"
God says: I promise rest. (Matthew 11:28-30)
"I am my past"
God says: In me, you are a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
"I'll be happy when _______"
God says: My JOY is constant. (Romans 12:12) (Romans 15:13)
